Join the Buzzards Bay Sailing Team sailing coaches Michael and Jane O'Connor as they teach you the ins and outs of C420 racing. Clinics will run Monday from 10am-2pm, Tuesday from 1-5pm, and Wednesday from 10am-2pm. You are welcome to bring your own 420 which can be stored on one of our floating docks for the duration of the clinic, or contact FHSS Program director Russ Gasdia to borrow one for the week.
About the Coaches
Mike O’Connor has been the Head Coach at Harvard since 1997. He has led Harvard to National Championships in Women’s Singehanded’s (’99, ’01), Men’s Singlehanded (’04, ’18, 25), Sloops/Match Racing (’00, ’01, 25), Women’s (’05), Coed Dinghies ’03 and '24, and Team Racing in ’02, ’03, '23 and '25. The Crimson won five consecutive Fowle Trophies for the ICSA Team of the Year from 2001 to 2005. This fall he led the Crimson to Victory in the ICSA Men's Singlehanded Championship and the ICSA Match Racing National Championship as well! In addition to coaching at Harvard O’Connor has run the sailing programs at Chappaquoit YC, Falmouth YC and Nantucket YC. For 21 years he was the Director of the Falmouth Harbor Sailing School in Falmouth MA.
Jane Kirk O’Connor was a three time All American Skipper at Tufts, where she won the National Championship in 1990 as the A-division Skipper. Prior to enrolling at Tufts she won the ISSA Mallory Trophy representing Tabor Academy. After graduating from Tufts she sailed Europe Dinghies on the International Circuit for several years. She competed in two Olympic Trials, and she represented the USA in the 1994 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg Russia. Jane has coached at Wild Harbor YC, Bass River YC, Falmouth YC, Nantucket YC and Boston College. From 2023 to 2025 she was the Program Director at the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion MA. Jane is also a STEM Specialist with a Masters Degree in Education. She currently works at the St. Joseph's School in Needham MA.
